- Kashtilash
- The name of four rulers of the Kassite Babylonian dynasty (ca. 1729-1155 b.c.). The third member of the dynasty, Kashti-lash (or Kastiliasu) I, who flourished during the early seventeenth century b.c., fought with Abi-esuh, grandson of Hammurabi, for control of Babylon. Little is known about Kashtilash II (late seventeenth century b.c.) and Kashtilash III (early sixteenth century b.c.). Kashtilash IV (mid-thirteenth century b.c.) attacked both Elam and Assyria but was unable to conquer either. The Assyrian king Tukulti-Ninurta I eventually ousted him and appointed three governors to rule Babylonia as an Assyrian dependency. The Kassites soon regained control of the region, however.
